Wanetta M. Carmichael

It is with tremendous sorrow that we say goodbye to Wanetta Mary Carmichael who passed away suddenly at the Upper River Valley hospital July 29, 2023. Wanetta was born January 27, 1939 in Bath, NB to the late Samuel and Bulah Giberson , but was informally adopted by Mildred and Walter Swim at just days old. An only child in her adopted home, Wanetta had 9 biological siblings. Wanetta married Sterling Carmichael February 21, 1956. She was predeceased by her husband Sterling Carmichael, granddaughter Kiska Ruff, and great granddaughter Brianna Carmichael.

The two had three children together, Vernon Carmichael, wife Avis Carmichael(Morgan), Rosalee Carmichael, and Leila Giberson husband Thomas Giberson. Wanetta leaves behind five grandchildren, Charlie Carmichael, Travis Ruff (Heather), Brandy Ruff, Christopher, and Sarah Giberson. Great grandchildren Keara Barrett, Emma Ruff, Addison Ruff, Indiana Ruff, Brandy Brown, Deidra Jinson, and Austin Drake. One great, great grandson Arthur Warren Timothy Smith. Wanetta was known for her unmatched work ethic.

Beginning with McCain foods at the wage of $0.55/hr Wanetta could sometimes be seen walking the 9km to work a full manual labour shift on concrete floors in uncomfortable shoes. Including on more than one occasion, working to the point of fainting, being taken to hospital, released and returning to the very same shift to complete it. Wanetta loved working at McCain foods and regretted retiring, even with a full pension. There was no end to Wanetta’s countless years that she gave to McCain’s.

Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Monday, July 31, 2023 from 4-8 pm. A graveside committal service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the Hunter Cemetery. Donations made to DunRoamin, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation.
