James R. Buxton
1965-2022
He was the son of William Buxton and the late Edith (Fox) Buxton. James is survived by his siblings Paul (Debby), Lori (Jeffrey) Springer, Jan (Leigh) Buxton, and John Buxton; as well as his friend and partner Lily Crandlemire, his son Ryan Hill and granddaughter Sydney MacNeil. James is also survived by several family members and friends.
From a young age James was artistic. He was always drawing and started carving over 30 years ago. For many years, James was involved extensively in the arts community both as an artist and a teacher and has many peers, friends, and students that he has collaborated with sharing his many talents and creativity.
He was a fabulous wood carver renowned for his songbirds. He was also well known for his weaved ash baskets. He spent many hours at his studio and could do just about anything artistically. He loved an artistic challenge and was forever a student of art himself.
He served for many years on the board of The Andrew and Laura McCain Art Gallery. As well, James was a resident artist at the River Art Centre and Studios. James loved everything about nature, especially birds, animals, and trees. When he was not creating art, you would often find him outside enjoying nature.
“I love to work with my hands – can’t keep them still or stay in one place unless I am working on an art piece. I like to think that I am plagiarizing nature with my birds. Making them real.”
